The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This is an Agriculturist 4 position for the Department of Agriculture located in Sparks. This position oversees the state noxious weed, weed free, bio control, and rangeland health programs providing critical educational, outreach and enforcement services. This includes managing federal grants for treatment projects and overseeing program specific staff. This position coordinates with local governments as well as state, federal, and tribal partners and supervises and coordinates the work of seasonal and technical staff involved in enforcement, field inspections and surveys, biocontrol agent monitoring, and weed free certification. This position requires extensive travel across the state and may require working occasional evenings and weekends. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and three years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, and agricultural produce grading; OR two years of experience as an Agriculturist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Special Requirements
This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.Additional Position Criteria
Experience with Nevada noxious weed species is required. Experience with plant identification is required.The Examination
